What is Raman spectrum?
Raman spectroscopy is a molecular spectroscopy technique that USES the interaction between light and matter to gain insight into the composition or properties of materials. For example, FTIR Raman spectroscopy provides information derived from the process of light scattering, while infrared spectroscopy relies on light absorption. Raman spectroscopy provides information about intramolecular and intermolecular vibrations and enhances the understanding of reactions. Both Raman and FTIR spectra provide spectra (" molecular fingerprints ") that characterize specific vibrations of molecules and are important for the identification of substances. However, Raman spectroscopy can provide more information about the lower frequency patterns and vibrations that represent the lattice and molecular backbone structures.
