At present, there is no good method for the identification of recycled materials. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used for determination. The correlation between test results and recycled materials is not intuitive nor targeted. Raman spectroscopy is widely used in polymer research because it can realize nondestructive and rapid detection. The doping of polyethylene and polypropylene new materials was analyzed by Raman spectrometer.

The peak shape and peak height of new and old materials are different due to the difference of crystallinity and polymerization degree. This difference helps to identify whether the material is mixed with reprocessed material.
