Reflectivity Measurement of Butterfly Wings

Butterflies are famous for their beautiful and bright colors. Biologists are interested in measuring the reflectivity of butterfly wings in the ultraviolet and visible ranges to better understand the species and its interaction with the ecosystem. Optosky spectrometer can be effectively used to measure these delicate biological samples.

The measurement points on the butterfly wings are significantly different. The measurement results of positions 1-4 are shown in Fig. 1, and positions 1-2 are shown in Fig. 2. Figure 1 shows the spectral characteristics (characteristic peaks) of ultraviolet and visible light, while Figure 2 shows the distinctive features of darker samples and lower reflectance values.

Therefore, it has higher sensitivity.
