Application Case | NY2300 Online Fruit Acidity & Sweetness Meter
The NY2300 Online Fruit Acidity & Sweetness Meter from Optosky uses near-infrared spectroscopy for non-destructive, high-speed detection of fruit sweetness and acidity. It delivers ±1% accuracy, processes over 10 fruits per second, and integrates seamlessly into intelligent sorting lines—ideal for apples, oranges, mangoes, and more.
Optosky's near-infrared spectroscopy instrument series includes handheld inspection devices, laboratory testing equipment, and on-site testing tools, fully leveraging the advantages of near-infrared technology in rapid, non-destructive, and accurate detection. These instruments are applied in smart agriculture, water quality testing, food safety, public safety, industrial inspection, and other fields. In this application case, we focus on the NY2300 Online Fruit Acidity & Sweetness Meter, demonstrating its efficient application in near-infrared detection of fruit sweetness.
01 Application Overview
Customer: Numerous fruit industry clientsApplication Direction: Measuring Fruit SweetnessIn the modern fruit industry chain, consumer demands for taste and quality are constantly increasing. How to accurately and quickly determine the internal quality of fruit during post-harvest processing and sales has become a key area for optimization for orchards, sorting facilities, and distribution companies. Traditional sugar content testing methods require sample destruction, are time-consuming and labor-intensive, and are difficult to apply to batch testing, increasing labor and management costs while limiting sorting efficiency. The NY2300 Online Fruit Acidity & Sweetness Meter uses near-infrared spectroscopy to achieve non-destructive testing of internal fruit quality. The device illuminates the fruit with near-infrared light and, based on the absorption characteristics of different components at different wavelengths combined with chemometric analysis models, accurately calculates key indicators such as sugar content and acidity. Comprising an acquisition module and a test host, it adapts to spherical fruits of different sizes (small, medium, large) with a fruit diameter range of 50mm–110mm, supporting customized modeling for varieties such as oranges, mandarins, lemons, grapefruits, apples, and persimmons. 02 Application Cases
03 Product Introduction
In practical applications, the NY2300 can be flexibly customized according to production line requirements, with simple installation and no complex setup. It supports Ethernet and serial port data output to host computers or PLCs for fast transmission, and features hardware triggering for precise measurement positioning. Algorithms run on an embedded system, eliminating the need for an additional PC and significantly reducing costs.Leveraging Optosky's self-developed algorithms, the NY2300 collects near-infrared spectra of fruits and establishes partial least squares (PLS) models to control sweetness detection error within ±1% (depending on the model), achieving accuracy comparable to professional tasters. Users can easily perform customized modeling for different fruit types to ensure optimal detection results. Measurement results are displayed in real time on a digital screen, supported by professional modeling software that manages multiple fruit models for efficient and convenient operation.
